The questions people ask
Do I need an account?
No. The app works completely without one, and nothing is hidden behind signing in. An account exists so that a second device — or a replaced one — can show the same log. Without it, everything stays on your phone and nothing is sent anywhere.
Are my photos backed up?
No, and this is deliberate. Photographs you attach to a journal entry stay on your device. They are not uploaded and not synced. A second device signed into the same account will know an entry has photographs and will show a placeholder in their place.
So if you lose your phone, the places and the writing survive and the photographs do not. Settings → Export writes everything else to a file you keep, and it behaves the same way.
My places have not appeared on my other device
Sync runs when the app opens and after you change something, and it needs a connection. Open the app on both devices, check both are signed into the same account, and give it a moment. If a place still does not cross over, send feedback from the device that is missing it — the version number in the report is what tells us where to look.
I cannot sign in
- You can sign in with your username or your email address. Either works.
- Forgotten password: Forgot password on the sign-in sheet emails you a code. It is single use, so if you leave that screen and come back, ask for a new one.
- If you signed up with Apple or Google, there is no password to reset — use the same button you used the first time. The app says so if you try.
- If you registered and never entered the emailed code, just sign in with the address and password you chose. The app sends a fresh code and puts you back on that step.
A country is not filling in
Log a place in it — a country ticked in the bulk list, or a trip with that country set, will colour it. A record that names only a country deliberately gets no city dot: the fill already says you were there, and a dot at the middle of a country would be a claim about a spot you never stood on.
The map will not load
The map needs a connection — it draws from tiles fetched as you move. Your records are all stored on the device and are safe offline; it is only the map behind them that needs the network.
Turning off the map's telemetry
The Mapbox component collects its own usage data, separately from us and under its own policy. We never receive it. Tap the ⓘ beside the Mapbox logo on the map and use the opt-out there.
Deleting your data, and deleting your account
They are different things and the app keeps them apart. Settings → Delete all data removes records; Settings → Delete account closes the account and removes the copy held for it, leaving what is on your phone alone. Each screen says exactly what it will do before you confirm.
If you signed in with Apple, one step is yours rather than ours: open Settings, tap your name, then Sign in with Apple, find this app in the list and tap Stop Using Apple ID. That list is Apple's, so the entry may be named after the app's identifier rather than after the app.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone, on iOS 15.1 and later. It is not designed for iPad — an iPad can install it and will run it scaled, but the layout is a phone's.
